Brett Lawrie card #78 2012 Topps Gold #462

  • Sheer accident.  Happened upon this card at a 5/$1 table at last weekend's card show.  That's always the way; when you're not looking for something it pops up.
  • Serial # 272/2012.  Was surprised to see that I don't have this card or its base card posted at all.
  • Market Watch:  4 copies currently on COMC, 3 of them at the $1.74/$1.75 level, for me that's about right.  Priciest copy is $3.99 which is a little high, but not outrageous.
  • Still can't believe it's been two years out of baseball already for Brett.  Still only 28, would love to see him get another chance.

Joe Sakic card #307 1998-99 Black Diamond double diamond #23

  • Upper Deck changed things up, serial numbering their double and triple diamond cards.  This card is #'d 133/2000.
  • I need the gold triple diamond version btw, so if you see it for a reasonable price just let me know.
  • Market Watch:  No copies of this card on ebay (as of this writing).  3 copies on COMC, priced from $3.95 to $4.50, which honestly I don't find outrageous at all.
  • Goal #307 finished off the 96-97 campaign; it was scored on 4/6/97 against the Coyotes in a 2-1 victory.  The goalie that night for Phoenix was Nikolai Khabibulin, the "Bulin Wall".

Joe Sakic card #304 1998-99 UD MVP Silver Script #53

  • This card is the closest I come to owning a Joe Sakic autographed card.   His auto cards are very expensive (for me anyway) and it'll be a while before I invest in one.
  • Parallel universe:  Very easy to obtain this card (I believe I've had it since 98-99).  I'm still looking for the gold script (#'d to 100) and super script (#'d to 25) versions.  Yes, I do want them.
  • 2 copies of this card on COMC, $1.25 & $1.50 currently.   Not outrageous at all....
  • Sakic's 304th career goal was goal #2 of the hat trick I mentioned this morning.  Just another chance to get Ken Wregget's name on the blog again.

Andrew McCutchen card #117 2018 Topps Heritage Purple Refractor #THC-50

  • Must be the scanner:  The purple is much more vibrant in hand than on the scan.  Still looks great either way.
  • If these purple refractors were numbered, I'd be in trouble.  I'd want to chase them all down.
  • COMC price range:  55 cents (cheap) at the low end, $2.25 at the high end (not too bad).  I'm just glad to have it in my hands.
  • Andrew is just 59 hits shy of 1500.  29 more extra base hits will give him 600 for his career.  There's a chance that he hits both milestones this season.

Ichiro card #34 2008 Upper Deck Spectrum blue parallel card #85

  • Love the look of this card.  The blue in the design works well with the blue on the Mariners uniforms.
  • Bio on the back: "...drove in two runs and hit the event's first ever inside the park HR."  I've never been much for watching all star games, but I think I'm going to have to find that piece of footage on you tube.  Here you go  Inside the park
  • Shows how much I know.  I thought the blue version was the base.  Nope, that's the purple version.  Blue and green are the parallels (green #'d to 99 copies).
  • Game #34:  He increases his hit streak to 16 games, but his average over the past 2 days has dropped 11 points from .349 to .338.  Ichiro goes 1 for 5 and drives in a run as the M's win the series with a 5-2 victory over the Red Sox.   Off to Toronto for the next 3 games...

Ichiro card #33 2009 OPC Black Parallel #544

  • Love the black bordered 2009 OPC's.  Still have a bunch them listed on my trade list at TCDB.
  • Bio on the back:  "the only player in MLB history to record over 200 hits in each of his first 8 years in the big leagues".  Incredible.
  • Cheap.  Only one of these listed on COMC right now, and at 99 cents I think that's pretty cheap.
  • Game #33 sees Ichiro's average drop 7 points to .342.  He goes 1 for 6 to improve his hit streak to 15 games as the M's double up the Red Sox 10-5.  The Mariner's are now 24-9 in Ichiro's rookie season.

Ichiro card #32 2008 Upper Deck Baseball Heroes Green Parallel #186

  • Take a guess at how many MLB hits are on this card.  If you guessed 8253, you would be correct.
  • Serial #'d 146/499.  Right up my alley picking up a serial numbered card for cheap.  I still have a few more to show in the coming weeks.
  • This is the first card in 839 posts on this blog that has featured a card from 2008.
  • Too bad that Manny's PED suspensions will likely deter HOF voters.  It would be great to say someday that there are 3 HOF'ers on this card.
  • Game #32:  After a travel day, the Mariners hit the east coast against the Red Sox and get hammered 12-4.  Ichiro extends his hitting streak to 14 games with a 2 for 5 performance.  During the 14 games, Ichiro hasn't drawn a base on balls, and struck out just 5 times in 69 ABs.

Andrew McCutchen card #115 2018 Donruss Holo Green Retro Parallel #257

  • This is a great looking card in my opinion and I was quite happy to pull it out of a pack of Donruss this year.
  • Speaking of 2018, this is the first '18 card that I've added to any of my PC's.  Outside of Larry Fitzgerald, I don't have any PC's that are current players so the influx of new cards isn't heavy.
  • 3 copies of this card on COMC, very tightly priced between $2.19 & $2.24.  Another reason I was happy to get this from a pack.
  • Scary:  there are 13 cards/variations from Donruss available right now.  Some nice looking cards, but it's a little overkill if you ask me.

Jim Thome card #284 1994 Stadium Club Golden Rainbow #52

  • You can sort of see it in the scan, but the rainbow effect is more evident in hand.  If there were more of the effect on the front of the card, it would look really good. With just the last name and the Stadium Club logo having the effect, it's just OK for me.
  • At least I only paid 18 cents for it on Sportlots.  Love getting PC cards for under a quarter.
  • Career homer #284 was hit the day after #283, against the Twins.  Kyle Lohse was the victim this time, a 2 run shot that broke a 2-2 tie in the bottom of the 3rd, and the Indians would score 4 more in the 4th to chase Kyle on their way to an 8-4 win.  This would make a winner of Bartolo Colon(3-0) who is still pitching 16 years later.

Ichiro card #30 2004 Upper Deck Diamond Collection Pro Sigs Silver #42

  • I prefer this to the blue (base) version I showed earlier today.  It's a lot easier to see the lettering and it just looks better in my opinion.
  • I imagine if the base version is just over $1, this would probably be around $2.50?  Didn't see any copies on COMC or on ebay.  I guess I don't have to worry too much about it since I already have it in hand.
  • Game #30 is Ichiro's 2nd consecutive 2 hit game in Canada.   This time he hits a double and a triple, scores twice and drives in 2 more in a 7-5 win.   His hit streak is now 12 games.

Joe Sakic card #298 1998-99 UD Choice Prime Choice Reserve Parallel #230

  • I really didn't care for the Choice Reserve parallels.  They are very difficult to see and really don't do anything different from the base card.
  • One of the most limited cards I have of Joe, it's #'d 87/100.
  • We're back after a 3 month absence.  I kind of set this blog aside while I was cleaning up both my collection and getting the base blog rolling again.   I've done both to a certain degree.

Joe Sakic card #294 1998-99 UD Choice Starquest Red #SQ11

  • Was kind of surprised for how old this card was and how many of them are out there that this wasn't added to the TCDB.   That has been handled...
  • Supposedly there are 100 copies of a Gold Starquest card out there of Joe Sakic.  In all these years I have never seen one.  Found a Chipper Jones '99 SQ gold out of 100 ebay auction, $125.  Yikes.
  • Three copies of this are currently on COMC.  Cheapest is $1.99, most expensive is $3.70.  Not bad.
- Robert

Joe Sakic card #293 1998-99 UD Choice Starquest Green #SQ11

  • This is the middle tier of the Starquest inserts.  I love the look of this card better than the other two versions because of the green.
  • Still cheap:  COMC has a copy of this card for just 89 cents, which is still reasonable for any Sakic insert.
  • I've been trying to find the odds of pulling the green and red versions, but have had no luck.  If anyone sees them anywhere online, please point them out to me.

Joe Sakic card #284 1996-97 Donruss Press Proof #1

  • Hot damn!  This beauty arrived on my doorstep the day after Christmas courtesy of a surprise envelope from Dennis at the Too Many Verlanders blog.  Need it!
  • Not cheap either.  COMC has 2 copies, one listed at $3.50, and the other at $5.25.
  • It also surprised me that this hadn't been added to the TCDB yet.   I submitted it just before posting...
  • I may have to go and buy a couple of cards at a buck or two now just to celebrate.   Thank you Dennis!

Joe Sakic card #283 1997-98 Pacific Dynagon Emerald #34

  • Got lucky and found this card for 95 cents on COMC.  I've had a tough time finding Sakic parallels from the late 90's for less than a dollar.
  • Added this to the Trading Card Database; was surprised that it wasn't already there.
  • As I mentioned on my main blog a couple days ago, the scanner doesn't do the card justice.   It looks much better in hand.
  • I've hit the 700 card mark for my Sakic PC, and that's not counting jersey cards which I keep separate from the binders.  It's getting tougher to find cards on the cheap as the number of base cards is dwindling.

Joe Sakic card #282 1998-99 Upper Deck Gold Reserve #248

  • Same only different.  The only difference from last night's card to this one is the gold tint.  Scan makes it look different because you can't see the players in the background.
  • Kind of surprised that this wasn't added to the TCDB yet.  That's been taken care of.
  • 4 copies of the card currently on COMC.  3 priced at $1.40, the 4th at $1.45.  Man that's a tight range...The cheapest base card from last night is $1, a little overpriced if you ask me.

Andrew McCutchen card #106 2013 Topps Finest Refractor #13

  • The refractor definitely scanned much better than the regular base card did.  Love how the dots/holes in the background pop with a gold tinge to them.
  • This is the final card of Andrew from my last COMC order, finally cleaning off my desk.  This morning's base card was just 34 cents, while the refractor was very cheap (in my eyes) at just 40 cents.
  • Another card added to the Trading Card Database.  It amazes me sometimes just how many cards of star players haven't been added yet.  The site is currently at 2.12 million cards added.

Andrew McCutchen card #103 2016 Bowman Platinum Purple #55

  • Spotted this at last weekend's show in a dollar bin.  Didn't think that the price was too outrageous, so it came home with me (as you can plainly see).
  • I'm grateful that the serial # is easily visible on the front.  Normally I have to use a magnifying glass to see serial #'s these days.
  • One of the many cards in the Bowman Platinum rainbow, I still need the Black, Green, Ice and Orange parallel versions.

Andrew McCutchen card #101 2014 Topps Update blue #US216

  • Actually found this card while digging through the boat load of inserts and parallels that I am slowly adding to my trade list on TCDB.
  • Speaking of TCDB, I added this card to the website today.  I still have a long way to go to get all of my PC's entered, but it'll be worth it in the end for me, because the site will help me get organized.
  • What I like about this photo is how comfortable Andrew looks at the game.  2014 was his 4th straight All-Star appearance; I'm hoping he has a big year in 2018 and gets back to the game.

Joe Sakic card #266 1996-97 Pinnacle Mint Bronze #11

  • Don't think I'm going to hit the 397 posts that I completed on the blog in 2016, but 375 is a good target for 2017.  Right around 50 more posts this year should get me there.  Some 2 a days are in order.
  • This card looks much better than this morning's card.  The bronze coin suits it quite well.  Still need the silver and gold versions.
  • The only copy currently on COMC is priced at $2.88, maybe a tad expensive but I do remember that these cards were a bit pricey when they first came out.
