Andrew McCutchen card #39 2013 Topps Archives 1972 Basketball Design #72B-AM

  • Great design, love the homage to an old and great basketball set from the 70's.  Shame they only did a 20 card insert set, because this would be a set worth chasing, IMO.
  • Found a McCutchen blog today thanks to AJ (the Lost Collector).  If you're looking for high end McCutchen goodies, check out Collecting Cutch.
  • Picked this up today at the monthly card show, in a 3 for $5 box.  May be a bit pricey, but I really liked the card and knew that I didn't have it, so I figured why not?

Brett Lawrie card #38 2013 Topps Archives #186

  • The only way that you can tell that it's a different photo from the 2013 Topps base set is that he's wearing his road greys on this card, whereas on the flagship he's in the home whites.  Otherwise, it's virtually the same fielding pose.
  • Why do guys wearing batting gloves underneath their leather?   Never really made any sense to me.  Can't be for protection, can it?
  • Bio on the back:  "Brett topped the Blue Jays with a .319 batting average against left handed pitching.  He also relished raking at the Rogers Centre (Skydome), where he swatted .302."  What happened to words such as hitting or batting in the 2nd sentence?  Did they become passe?
