Jim Thome card #287 1997 Upper Deck Predictor #P13

  • While I applaud Upper Deck for its uniqueness in creating a lottery type scratcher with this card, it's kind of disappointing to never know if it would have won without defacing the card.
  • Just noticed in the background, the on-deck circles feature the Tigers and the Red Sox.  Maybe they could have included a game with Thome's Indians in the picture?  Just a thought...
  • Another cheap pickup from the Sportlots lot from a few weeks back.  Still a few more Thome cards to show off before I get back to the 2002 portion of the PC.
  • Career HR #287:  Jim hit this homer on 4/21/2002, off of Rick Reed of the Twins.  The 2-run shot broke a scoreless tie in the 4th, but it would be all the Indians get on that day as the Twins would win 4-2.  It would be the Tribe's 6th straight loss and drop them to 11-7.

Jim Thome card #113 1997 Upper Deck #347

  • Like the bit of wood grain at the bottom that UD employed.  Different look for them, and I don't think it was a bad choice.   If the Indians logo wasn't in foil, I think the card would have been even better looking.
  • Finally!  Starting to get low on the '97 cards, only 3 more to go that need posted.  My '98 total currently stands at 36, which likely will not be improved upon for a while.
  • Career HR #113 was hit off the same pitcher as #112, Brad Radke of the Twins.  Yes, they were both hit in the same game, June 23/97.  They were both solo shots, and were the only runs the Indians scored in a 7-2 loss.
