Joe Sakic card #226 1995-96 Fleer Ultra #136

  • I've had the Fleer Extra card from this set for a very long time, but when buying cards off of Sportlots recently, I couldn't believe that I didn't have this base card.  18 cents later, this was in the cart.
  • I still have a few more Sakic cards that feature him in the Nordiques jersey to acquire.  A lot of what's remaining are refractors, parallels or oddballs.
  • The back of the card has 3 times as many photos as the front.  Not sure why Fleer thought it necessary to use that many photos on the back.  If you total up the photos, 2 feature Joe in his road uniform, and 2 have him in the home whites.

Joe Sakic card #129 1995-96 Fleer Ultra Extra #396

  • Instead of watching election results (Yes, I did vote in case you were wondering) I'm watching a hockey game and posting a hockey card on the blog.  Hard to tell I'm Canadian, huh?
  • Interesting that the base card for Sakic in the 95-96 Ultra set featured him in a Nordiques jersey, but the Ultra Cool card later in the set features him in the new Avalanche sweater.
  • Career goal #129 for Joe came on 2/26/1992 versus the equally poor San Jose Sharks.  The game was played in the old Cow Palace, with the Sharks winning 7-4.  Jeff Hackett was the goalie for San Jose, and Pat Falloon (remember him?) had a goal and 3 helpers.

Joe Sakic card #123 1995-96 Fleer Ultra Gold Medallion #136

  • How is it that I managed to get the Gold Medallion parallel, and have had it for quite a long time, but don't have the base version of this card??!!  That needs to be rectified, and soon.
  • The back of this card has 3(!) photos of Sakic.  I don't know if I've ever seen a card with 3 photos of the same player, save for the 70's OPC/Topps team leader cards.
  • Career goal #123 for Joe came on 12/5/91 at the Boston Garden.  Joe scored both goals in a 2-2 that night.  Andy Moog was the victim for both goals...

Joe Sakic card #122 1995-96 Fleer Ultra Premier Pivot #8

  • Love the look of this card, the dual photo looks really sharp.    I also enjoy that the photos use both the home and road jerseys.  Fleer got this one right in my opinion.
  • This is part of a 10 card insert set, featuring a who's who of great center-men of that era.  Messier, Fedorov, Gretzky, Lindros, Francis, Oates, Sundin, Roenick, and Zhamnov were the other 9 to be part of the set.
  • There are currently a dozen of these listed on COMC, ranging in price from $1.40 to $2.75.  Not bad, seems like a decent range for this card.
